Yobe to Train 400 Youths

As part of efforts to tackle youth unemployment and insecurity in the state, the Yobe State Government has concluded plans to send 400 youth across the state to Kano for skills acquisition.

The state Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Aji Yerima Bularafa, disclosed that the youths would be sent to the General Sani Abacha Training Institute Kano during a meeting of all the 17 local government caretaker chairmen in his office.
Bularafa said he convened the meeting in order to finalise the arrangement for the movement of the 400 youths to Kano.

“This meeting is to finalise all the arrangement for the take off the 400 youths training in Kano to acquire skills in different trades so as to make them self-reliant,” he said.

He also said: “In less than two weeks, the youths will take off from all the local government headquarters to Kano. Because of the security situation, we cannot bring them to Damaturu for the trip. We have arranged with the caretaker chairmen that the beneficiaries will not come to Damaturu but will rather take off from their different local government headquarters.”

He disclosed that the 400 youths will be trained in computer studies, welding and fabrication, fashion design, GSM repair, poetry, carpentry, video coverage, fish farming, electrical installation, printing technology, etc for a duration of  six months, adding that the project will gulp the sum of N65 million covering  tuition fee,  accommodation, allowances for trainees, transportation and  NBTE examination fees.

The commissioner also explained that the beneficiaries would get a working  capital and equipment  from the state government after completion of their programmes at zero cost.

He described the training exercise as a success story, stressing that the state government has from  2007 to date trained 1500 youths in the state.
