Lady Gaga Plays Barefoot Soccer with Favela Children

On Thursday, Lady Gaga paid a lengthy visit to Rio de Janeiro's Cantagalo favela, a famed shantytown in the Ipanema district. The singer took a stroll through the alleys with a crew of local children, posing for pictures, signing autogaphs, and doling out hugs and kisses. She even popped into a local bar for a beer and played some footie. It's safe to say the kids won the game, as Gaga tweeted, "they were SO GOOD IT WAS CRAZY."

Gaga hadn't just popped in at random: She was there to get a closer look at the social development project underway in the area, the work of Brazil's Globo Television and the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Gaga called the experience the "best day [she] ever had," tweeting, "i'll never forget Rio, you lit my heart into flames."
