Ekiti Women Want 35% Input in Constitution Review

Five days after the conduct of the public session on the review of the 1999 Constitution, women in Ekiti State, led by the state Deputy Governor, Mrs Funmilayo Olayinka and wife of the state governor, Mrs. Bisi Fayemi, yesterday rejected the outcome of the exercise, demanding 35 per cent representation of women in the state.

  The position of the women, according to a statement issued by a group, Ekiti Women Stakeholders Forum (EWSF), and endorsed by the President of the state chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers, Mrs. Rita Ilevbare,  said: “The Ekiti Women Stakeholders Forum, on behalf of the vast majority of Ekiti women, totally dissociate ourselves from the purported outcomes of the November 10  meeting, which took place in Ekiti.

“We unanimously and unequivocally seek provision for a minimum of 35 per cent representation of women at all levels in the proposed new Constitution.”
